ATTENTION EPA CERTIFIED RENOVATORS
The EPA requires Certified Renovators to complete a four-hour refresher training to renew this certification. Renovators will need to provide a copy of their original renovator training completion certificate (with picture) to the trainer to verify eligibility to take the refresher course.
MEC will collect a copy of each student's prior course completion certificate demonstrating their eligibility to take the refresher course. MEC will retain these training certificates for a period of 5 years.
On April 9, 2015 an e-mail announcement was received from EPA which extends certifications for certain individual renovators. This rule apples to:
  • Individual renovators who received certification on or before March 31, 2010, now have until March 31, 2016, to get recertified.
  • Individual renovators who received certification between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011, will have one year added to their 5-year certification.
  • Subsequent certifications for renovators receiving the extension will be five years.

These extensions apply only to individual renovator certification - not the renovation firm certifications. (EPA Renovation Firms will still expire on the date listed on the Renovation Firm Certificate received from the EPA.) Firm Certification or renewal is done directly with the EPA. You may call the EPA at 1-800-424- LEAD (5323) or go the EPA web site at https://www2.epa.gov/lead for information or questions.
It is important to note that this decision by the EPA does NOT apply to individual renovators in States who have their own authorized program (such as Wisconsin and Iowa).
It is also important to note that there have been rule changes and updates to the RRP requirements since the RRP Rule first went into effect on April 10, 2010. Renovators may wish to consider attending a refresher course prior to the extension date deadlines to ensure that they have received the new information and reviewed the initial information in order to help ensure compliance.
Midwest Environmental Consulting, LLC will continue to offer the RRP Refresher courses as long as there are enough registrations to justify holding a class.

JUST A REMINDER: Every Firm (whether a one man shop or an organization with thousands of employees) must become a certified renovation firm with the EPA if they work on pre-1978 residential or child-occupied facilities with known or presumed lead based paint (with rare exceptions). For more information about how to apply to become a Certified Renovation Firm, go to the EPA web site at www2.epa.gov/lead or call 1-800-424-LEAD (5323).
There is a $10.00 fee to receive a duplicate copy of your original EPA Lead Certified Renovator Training Completion Certificate. If the Lead EPA Certified Renovator Refresher course is taken with Midwest Environmental Consulting, L.L.C. (MEC) that fee will be waived.
